I know that we cannot technically go on a hike together.

BUT I can at least show you how almost all of my days start. I talk about hiking all the time here because it is something I really love and it’s the best way I can think of to get my morning started. Some people run or go to the gym, but I really hate the gym. So I hike.

For the last seven years of my life I have been lucky enough to live within walking distance to multiple trails.

I may not have great Farmers Markets and grocery stores with huge varieties of foods, but at least I am surrounded by some of the best hikes and views Colorado has to offer.

I figured it was about time I take you with me on my daily hike. The trail head is literally fifty feet from my front door and while it is a completely straight up hike, the views are incredible and it makes all the huffing and puffing the entire way up totally worth it.

I am a little sad to say that my camera just did not even come close to capturing the “wow” factors of the mountains, but I think you’ll get the idea.

So let’s go!

Grab your hiking boots…. because first we have to go let the chickens out, get them some fresh water, some food and attempt to clean up all their poop. It’s so fun!

First things first, I have to unplug their heat lamp. Yes, they do get a heat lamp because it gets so dang cold here at night. Spoiled chickens? Yup.

The rest is pretty easy, just get them some fresh water and food. Then they are pretty much good for the day. They run, they play and they make some noise.

Oh and I have named them – Elsa, Anna and Olaf. I thought Asher would enjoy those names. Of course, I have a hard time telling who is who, but they can’t be nameless.

The first creek.

Throughout the trail all you can hear is water running. Not much else. Just water, birds and the sound of the wind. It’s amazing.

When you see the horses there is nothing you can do but step aside and let them pass. It’s a skinny trial and those guys are BIG.

  1. Such a brilliant idea Tieghan. I’m going to do this with my morning seaside walk tomorrow (Melbourne). I’m an Aussie, but was an exchange student to Denver back in the 80’s!! You brought back some beautiful memories. Thanks for sharing xx

  2. I love this post! Colorado is so beautiful, I’d love to go there someday. I love hiking too! We just got back from a week in Yosemite, specifically Tuolumne Meadows, it’s my absolute favorite place! You’re so lucky to have such beautiful trails right out your door.

  3. Wow, you brought back memories of when we lived in Laramie, Wyoming, and hiked a lot there. It’s been years since I’ve seen that kind of scenery, and I loved your pictures and your descriptions. Those are wild roses, natives called Nootka roses, which are all over the West and up into Alaska. I’m not sure what the second mountain flower is, either, but it’s gorgeous.

  4. Looks like you had a fabulous day! So important to get out and smell the (wild) roses – thanks for sharing!!!

  5. LOVE hiking and these trails look amazing! I also live in talking distance to a few and that is pretty rare on long island. I would go hiking with you anytime! I cannot wait to see CO, it’s on my travel list!

  6. I’ve never been to the mountains before but this virtual hike was AMAZING Tieghan! Your photography is incredible, btw. Thanks so much for sharing this.

  7. Gorgeous pictures. Looks like it is quite the hike. I am sure that it keeps you fit.

  8. I am SO envious! I would never step foot in a gym or on a treadmill again if I lived where you do. Blessed!! : )

  9. Hi Tieghan,

Stunning, just stunning! I am not a gym person either. I prefer being out in nature. Thanks for the hike and letting us tag along with you!!
