My new go-to weeknight dinner – Easy Chipotle Salmon Burgers. Smoky, slightly spicy, chipotle-seasoned salmon burgers. Pan-fried until crispy with melty Havarti cheese. Then sandwiched between toasted brioche buns with creamy, spicy-sweet chipotle mayo. These colorful and fresh salmon burgers are simple to make and full of so much flavor. Great for spring and summer, plus so delicious!

Well, these are different! I never make burgers, but something inside me really wanted to make THIS burger. Something chipotle salmon was the original idea. And then a burger just sounded so fun for the spring and summer months.

I decided a burger could be a great recipe, so I nervously tested the recipe, and you all? These burgers are something special. So special that my dad mentioned this might be his favorite dinner of all.

That is saying A LOT. I don’t love the photos, but I LOVE this recipe.

Now, a few notes. This is a salmon burger and the burger should be pan-fried, not grilled. I think if they were grilled, they could fall apart.

For the actual salmon, I used canned. This is my go-to brand for canned salmon and tuna, we love it. Having canned salmon on hand makes for some of the easiest recipes. Plus it’s delicious and incredibly healthy too.

Now, details

This recipe is so simple, so we gotta love that.

Grab your cooked salmon and mix it with Panko bread crumbs, eggs, chipotle in adobo sauce, tamari for a nice saltiness, honey to balance the spice level, garlic, and chili powder.

Make 3 or 4 burgers, I like to do 4 smaller burgers. Then, pan-fry each in a skillet with oil. I use either use avocado oil or olive oil.

Next up, the cheese! Yes, cheese and seafood. It does work. Add a slice of Havarti cheese to each burger and let it melt over the crispy patties.

So yummy!

Mix up the mayo, chipotle in adobo, honey, mayo, and sea salt. Then, layer your toasted brioche buns with mayo, the cheesy spicy burgers, and a handful of lettuce, plus avocado.

Serve with extra mayo, of course. Totally delicious and this will be great for the warmer spring and summer days ahead!

Absolutely banging and super easy to make. I followed advice in the comments and cooked salmon myself instead of using canned and it worked really well. Easy to adjust the spice to your liking

    1. Hey Marie,
Happy Friday!! Thanks so much for trying this recipe, I love to hear that it turned out well for you! xx

  2. We made these tonight and used fresh Sockeye Salmon instead of cooked salmon. This is why all other comments about burgers falling apart is because of using cooked salmon instead of fresh. It takes a little extra effort and chopping of fresh salmon but is so worth it. Trust me I have cooked enough fresh Tina burgers to know fresh is best. Recipe flavour is great.

    1. Hi Derek,
Thanks so much for trying this recipe and your feedback, so glad to hear that it turned out well for you! Xx

So yummy! And the mayo made the burger but mine fell apart when I made them! That would be the only downfall of this recipe.

Yet another hit of a recipe in this house! We buy salmon burgers from our local grocer almost every week because we love them so much. I thought I’d try my hand at it tonight – huge success! Instead of canned salmon, I used a 1 lb. salmon flank and pan seared it 6 minutes on each side to get it cooked all of the way through. Followed the rest of the recipe as it’s written (except spice measurements because we LOVE spice/seasonings around here). Definitely will be making again and adding to the recipe box.

    1. Hi Megan! Thank you SO much! I always love reading comments and seeing that the recipe was a success! Have a great day! 🙂 xT

  5. Tried this with cooking salmon then using it in place of canned salmon. They fell apart, maybe it works better with canned salmon. But flavor was delicious! Will try again with actual canned salmon.

These are SO easy! I love that I can make the mixture ahead of time and hold in fridge and/or make a couple at a time on nights when everyone needs to eat at a different time!! My kids loved extra honey at the table and my husband and I loved extra peppers in the dipping sauce. One of my all-time favorite HBH recipes!!

If I want to freeze this so my growing teenage son has the endless supply he needs, would I cook them first and then freeze?
    Thanks for another great recipe

  8. Made these tonight and they were excellent! They fell apart a little and were slightly mushy but I’m a newer at home chef so it might have been me 🙂 Any suggestions for how to keep the patties firm? Thanks so much!

    1. Hi there! Hmm I would maybe cook on higher heat to form a nice outside layer and help them stay together? Hope this helps! xT
