You guys! Look what I made!

Cute little mini apple rose tarts and I am SO excited about them!

For the longest time, I’ve seen those rose avocados and rose apple pies on Instagram and wondered how the heck someone could create such a beautiful thing out of food! I for sure thought there was no way I could ever make something so pretty. Well, I am still wary of the avocado roses, BUT apple roses?!? Those I can do!!

Honestly, I cannot believe how simple and easy these are to make. They may seem tricky, but do not be fooled!

Since I’m always looking for new and fun ways to use tortillas, I thought they’d be the perfect base for these tarts, along with a butter pecan filling, and of course apples!! Mini pecan butter apple rose tarts with only eight ingredients? Yes please!

To make things easier to understand, I took some process shots of the rolling and forming of the tarts. Seriously, the trickiest part is waiting for them to bake… for real! And when they’re done, simply serve them warm with a dusting of powdered sugar. Perfection!

Hope you guys are having the perfect fall Sunday… be sure to save a little time to bake up these delicious apple rose tarts!! 🙂

Ingredients

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F. Grease a cupcake pan.
  • Core the apples and cut in half, then slice into 1/8 inch slices using a mandolin or a very sharp knife. Place the apples in a bowl and fill with water. Add the lemon juice, ½ teaspoon cinnamon, and 1 tablespoon brown sugar. Transfer to the microwave and cook for 45 seconds or until soft and pliable. Let cool.
  • In a food processor, combine the butter, remaining brown sugar, remaining cinnamon, pecans and vanilla. Pulse until a smooth paste forms, about 2-3 minutes.
  • Cut the tortillas into 2-inch wide strips. Microwave each tortilla for 5-10 seconds until soft. Spread the pecan mixture evenly over each strip and then arrange the apple slices lengthwise, overlapping each slightly along the tortilla strip. Fold the bottom half of the tortilla over the apples and press gently to adhere. Tightly roll the dough from left to right to create a rose. Place in the prepared pan and repeat with the remaining ingredients. Transfer to the oven and bake for 25-30 minute or until the tortillas are lightly crisp and golden.
  • Serve warm or at room temperature, dusted with powdered sugar.

Notes

*To make ahead, assemble the tarts, cover, and place in the fridge for up to 1 day. Bake as directed *Apple butter can be used in place of the pecan mixture.

  1. 4 stars
Just made these! More difficult than I expected but fun. I recommend taking them out of the pan ASAP before the sugar starts to stick to the pan.

  2. I will be making the mini pecan butter apple rose tarts, but the recipe for 16 says to use 2 apples.
Two apples will not serve sixteen to shape in a rose pattern. When I changed the recipe to serve 4
it calls for a half apple. What gives? Please advise.

    1. Hi there! How many tarts are you trying to make? 2-3 apples should give you about 16 mini tarts, dependent on the size of your apples.

Please let me know if you have any other questions. Hoping this helps, but let me know about serving size. Thank you!! xTieghan

  3. hi Tiegan,
I wondered if you have ever made a dish from hidden rose apples?
I just learned about them today. They are all pink on the inside and have yellow skin on the outside.
I thought you might want to check them out. They are really pretty and are supposed to be tart.
    God Bless You!

    1. Hi Lisa! I have never heard of those apples, but they sound delicious! I bet they will be great in this recipe. Please let me know if you have any other questions. I hope you love this recipe! Thank you! xTieghan

  4. After making these this morning I would suggest the following;
Don’t put butter in the brown sugar cinnamon mix. Instead brush the butter on while soft but not liquid – like paint then sprinkle the bs & cin.
I also used puff pasty instead of the tortilla.
But what do I know? I’m a mechanic not a chef.

  5. I’ve always wanted to make apple rose tarts! They look exquisite and so fancy! These are so beautiful. You truly are an artist in the kitchen!

  6. Hi, I made these with puff pastry, never thought about tortillas, how clever!
I don’t want to be mean, but it looks like your muffin baking pan needs to be replaced! 😉

  7. I, too, have made a puff pastry version of these before. But, who’s got puff pastry handy when she needs it? 🙂 Tortillas, we have! What a clever substitution! The nut butter is a tasty addition as well. This is perfect – and beautiful – for apple season.
