And I do mean the ultimate.

It’s addicting.

And I’ve waited over a year to share the recipe.

Of course, I do know that’s just ridiculous. BUT this Chex Mix is just too perfect of a recipe for the Super Bowl…so I had to wait. I’m sorry for selfishly making this throughout the entire year and not even saying a word. I kind of feel bad now.

Recipe rundown:

~It’s super easy.

~It feeds a crowd (or can also feed just two).

~You probably have most of the ingredients on hand now.

~It has pita chips.

~And pretzel nuggets.

~Cheddar cheese.

~And buffalo sauce!

Stopping after just one handful is not possible.

If you are planning to make this for Super Bowl Sunday (wow..is that really only a week from today?), I would make a double batch. It’s gonna go fast.

I could write more, but this recipe is so simple, I don’t even know what else to say. I could certainly just say over and over how amazingly good this is (it really really is!), but I feel like that gets just a tad boring. Or really just kind of obnoxious.

So….

Just make it!

Ingredients

  • 3 cups corn chex
  • 3 cups rice chex
  • 2 cups whole wheat chex
  • 2 cups mixed nuts or 1 cup peanuts
  • 2 cups sourdough pretzel nuggets
  • 2 cups pita chips
  • 1 1/2 sticks (3/4 cups) butter melted
  • 3/4 cup hot sauce I like to use franks
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons seasoned salt
  • 3-4 ounces sharp cheddar cheese finely grated
  • 4 ounces blue cheese crumbled (optional)

Instructions

  • Pre-heat oven to 250 degrees F.
  • In large bowl, mix the Chex cereals, mixed nuts, pretzels and pita chips. Set aside.
  • Melt the butter in a bowl and mix in the hot sauce and seasoned salt. Pour the buffalo sauce over the cereal mixture, tossing well for 3-5 minutes or until the cereal mixture is evenly coated. Spread evenly over two greased baking pans. Sprinkle the cheese over top of both baking pans.
  • Bake 1 hour, stirring every 15 minutes. Remove from the oven and toss with blue cheese. Allow the cheese to melt five minutes and then spread on paper towels to cool, about 15 minutes (or just start eating!!). Store in airtight container.

Time to snack.

**Oh, and I just have to mention…Backwards Day. It’s this Friday, January thirty-first and I could not be more pumped. Normally I do not pay attention to weird holidays like this, but my friends over at Bisquick are making things extra fun this year. They’re throwing a Backwards Day Brinner Bash! What’s a brinner bash? Basically, it’s a huge round-up of breakfast for dinner recipes that you just cannot pass up. All the recipes are amazing and I’m so excited for you guys to check out the pancakes I made for the bash. So be sure to head on over to the Brinner Bash this Friday. It is going to be good!

  1. Like a few reviews I found mine to be very soggy. I wonder if these ratios are off. It’s not my first timing making Chex mix. I may have to double the baking time or I’ll end up tossing the batch which I’m reluctant to do w/ the coat of everything so expensive right now.

    1. Hey Nikki,
So sorry to hear this turned out soggy, all of the ratios are correct:) Was there anything you did differently? Please let me know how I can help! xx

  2. 5 stars
Wow! I made this for my son’s graduation party. I usually can’t handle hot foods but this stuff is AMAZING. I have most of the ingredients to make another batch and I see that happening very soon.

    1. Hey Katrina,
Awesome!! I am delighted to hear that this recipe was enjoyed, thanks a bunch for making it! xxTieghan

  3. Which cheese is supposed to be added at which time? You list adding cheese in two different steps but did not specify cheddar or blue cheese. I’m looking forward to trying this out so clarification would be appreciated. It looks delicious!

    1. Hi Lecia! The cheddar should be use first, then the blue cheese second. Please let me know if you have any other questions. I hope you love this recipe! Thank you!! xTieghan

    1. Hey Drew! it is 1 1/2 sticks. Please let me know if you have any other questions. I hope you love this recipe. Thanks so much!! xTieghan

    1. HI! I have not tried that with this recipe, but I have with other crockpot recipes. I think it should be great! Let me know if you have other questions. Hope you love this and Merry Christmas!

  4. Meh, this was ok. The flavor is addicting but there was so much sauce the cereal never crisped up all the way even though I cooked it for an extra half hour. The blue cheese also didn’t melt, it just got soft (so it isn’t sticking to any of the mix). I am also leary of storing it outside of the fridge because of the blue cheese now. I might make it again, but I would reduce the sauce in half and not add the blue cheese. I would also probably add a packet of dry ranch mix to the sauce.

  5. OMG best snack mix ever….made up a batch last weekend for the Super Bowl…these were a huge hit, to the point that my hubby wouldn’t allow me to bring any to work to share…lol…looking forward to making your Christmas Chex mix with the left over cereal!

  6. Very very good mix….already made twice…
    Neighbors came over and we
Devoured first batch ….. So being they were here, I had help with second batch. I think I should get a bowl and hide some for a snack tomorrow !
